Shield Wall Ritual
"Together as one, we stand tall."
The Shield Wall is a community rite where we take our shared ideals and, for those who choose, seal them with a simple personal oath charged up with a community battle cry before Odin and Freya.
In this ritual, you'll choose your role in the Wall:
- Warriors learn simple Shield Wall techniques for protecting and defending.
- Wardens keep a lookout and help hold the quarters.
- Witnesses keep the beat during training and lend power as the oaths are made.
This is not a performance, but a participatory ritual. This is an opportunity for you to make your values real, spoken with intention before your community.
All attendees will have the opportunity to make and take a shield and staff as an anchor for their commitment. Oaths are optional—you can participate fully as a Warrior, Warden, or Witness without swearing anything.
Together as one, we stand tall, behind our shields and in our wall!
What to expect
- A guided group ritual with clear structure and professional facilitators
- Call-and-response battle cries, group movements
- Optional personal oath-taking ceremony before Odin and Freya
- Accessible participation options
- A take-home shield and staff as a physical anchor for your commitment
What to bring
- Comfortable clothing you can move in — we love con garb, too, but this is a working ritual
- Any accessibility supports you normally use — walkers, canes, and scooters are welcome in the Wall
- (Optional) An offering for Odin and/or Freya — in gratitude and honor (all offerings will become part of Shrine Row and accompanying deity-dedicated items under the care of Weavers of the Web, ATC)
We built this rite to be centered around consent and inclusion. You'll be offered choices at every stage—levels of participation, movement options, whether or not you choose to oath. You are welcome here.
This ritual is for everybody who wants to anchor your ideals in real community and courage. All means ALL; you do not need to be Norse, Heathen, or Wiccan to participate.
